I recently attended a headband-making workshop and party with my cousin vanessa, which was hosted by designer, stylist and fashion director of exit magazine aleksandra olenska; at frame studios in london.
it was really fun to hand-craft something beautiful and wearable and catchup with girlfriends at the same time.
aleksandra’s accessories are frequently seen on the catwalks at london fashion week and have even found their way into topshop, where she designed a jewellry line for them.
things got started with an introduction on how to approach making a headband by coming up with a concept, theme and choosing the colourways ( which i missed because i couldn’t find the space). everyone then made a grab for all the bits, baubles, beads and trimmings on the table and happily chatted away whilst getting on with assembling their tiara-like creations.
the space where it took places is a new dance/fitness and holistic studio tucked away down an alley in trendy hoxton.
i got talking with the people there and i may be teaching some yoga classes at frame in 2010, so i will update this site with information on group classes and schedules for 2010.
at the end of the party we all modeled our
headbands for the photographer daria stankiewicz
and compared what we had made,
each piece was truly unique and everyone had a
name for what inspired their own band, such as
“medusa on acid”, “preppy lady gaga”, “gothic lolita”
and “mongolian pocahontas” .
